Police Launch Investigation Into Attack on Immigration Passport Office in Ogbomoso

-

The Oyo State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the attack on the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Passport Office in Ogbomoso after armed hoodlums invaded the facility and carted away a rifle, ammunition, and other valuables.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the incident occurred at about 8:45 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, when armed assailants reportedly scaled the perimeter fence of the passport office through the rear section of the premises.

The officer in charge of the facility raised an alarm after the invasion, prompting the deployment of operatives from the Command Monitoring Unit and surveillance teams to the scene for immediate intervention and assessment.

Preliminary investigations revealed that about five armed hoodlums gained access to the facility through a rear fence bordering a large expanse of bushland. The attackers reportedly assaulted two immigration officers who were on night duty, using sticks and other dangerous weapons.

The suspects allegedly made away with a G3 rifle assigned to the office, ammunition attached to the weapon, a mobile phone belonging to one of the officers, a generating set, and a motorcycle battery before escaping through the same route.

Police said the injured officers received medical treatment and are currently in stable condition.

Following the attack, surveillance and tactical teams intensified operations in and around the area, including searches of adjoining bushes and suspected escape routes, in an effort to apprehend the perpetrators and recover the stolen firearm and other items.

The command said intelligence assets and informants have been activated to generate information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects, while all relevant investigative and operational resources have been mobilised to ensure a breakthrough in the case.

The police added that they are working closely with the Nigeria Immigration Service and other security agencies to track down those responsible for the attack.

The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, has directed all operational and intelligence units to deploy every available resource toward the arrest of the suspects. He also disclosed that a joint task team comprising personnel of the police and the Nigeria Immigration Service has been established to strengthen coordination and facilitate the investigation.

Olugbenga reassured residents of Ogbomoso and surrounding communities of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, stressing that efforts were underway to prevent criminal elements from gaining a foothold in the state.
