Oyo Police Denies Reports of Release of Abducted Pupils, Teachers in Orire

-

The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed as false the reports spreading on social media claiming that pupils and teachers abducted from Ahoro Esiele and Yawota communities in Orire Local Government Area have been freed.

The Command said in a statement signed by its Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, that the claim is “false, misleading, and entirely unsubstantiated,” adding that no such development had occurred as of the time of the release.

“Members of the public are advised to disregard the report in its entirety,” the statement read.

Authorities confirmed that rescue operations are still underway, with security operatives deploying what the Command described as all available human and operational resources toward securing the safe return of the victims, reuniting them with their families, and prosecuting those responsible.

The police warned individuals and groups against spreading unverified information, cautioning that false reports risk causing public panic, heightening anxiety, and undermining ongoing operations.

The Command urged residents to rely only on updates from official channels of the Nigeria Police Force and authorised government agencies, and to remain calm and vigilant.

It pledged to provide timely updates as the situation develops.

For emergencies, contact the Oyo State Call Response Centre on toll-free line 615, or the Police Command Control Room at 08081768614 and 07055495413.
