Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has commended the police and other security agencies for what he described as a sustained onslaught against criminal elements, following the success of the ongoing Operation “Kosaye” across Lagos and Ogun states.
The coordinated security operation has resulted in the arrest of 88 suspects, the rescue of five kidnapped victims, the recovery of a cache of arms and ammunition, and the death of four suspected criminals during a gun battle with security operatives.
Sanwo-Olu praised the efforts of the police, saying the operation demonstrates the effectiveness of inter-state collaboration in tackling violent crime.
“We will continue to work with the police and other security agencies to ensure that our state is safe and secure for residents and visitors,” the governor said.
He also commended the leadership of Tunji Disu and the cooperation between the Lagos and Ogun State police commands.
“We appreciate the huge efforts of the police, as directed by Inspector-General Tunji Disu, in arresting the suspects and the cooperation of our neighbours, Ogun State. This is the way it should be,” Sanwo-Olu added.
The governor’s remarks come amid heightened security operations across the two states, with a visibly increased police presence in strategic locations. Police authorities have also displayed recovered weapons and paraded arrested suspects, a move aimed at sending a strong warning to criminal gangs operating in the region.
Operation “Kosaye,” which translates to “no space for criminals,” is a renewed offensive targeting kidnapping syndicates, armed robbery gangs and other violent criminal networks operating within the South-West.
As part of the operation, security operatives are combing forest areas along the Lagos-Ogun border, particularly the J3/J4 axis in Ogbere, Ogun State, which is believed to be a hideout for criminal groups.
Police authorities said they remain committed to ensuring there is no safe haven for kidnappers and other violent offenders through intelligence-driven operations and sustained security patrols.
Sanwo-Olu also appealed to Lagos residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely information on suspected criminal hideouts.
“We will do our best to ensure that our law enforcement agencies are well motivated through the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF),” the governor said.
