IGP Approves Nationwide Rollout of PCRC Safe School Club Initiative

-

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has given final approval for the nationwide rollout of the Police Community Relations Committee’s (PCRC) Safe School Club Initiative.

The approval was granted during a meeting at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Friday evening, after the IGP reviewed the programme’s implementation framework.

Disu also approved one of three submitted uniform designs — including a distinctive fez cap — as the official outfit for the scheme, along with a specially designed traffic safety banner for students to use while crossing roads to and from school.

He directed the PCRC to build membership of more than 10,000 participants nationwide and called for security coding and identification features to be built into the uniforms, to ensure each piece could be traced to its owner and prevent misuse.

The IGP commended the PCRC leadership, led by National Chairman Alhaji Mogaji Ibrahim Olaniyan, and pledged the Force’s continued support for the initiative.

Responding, Olaniyan thanked the IGP for backing the programme and said the PCRC’s National Executive Committee would work with POLCACOF, the Force Public Relations Department, and the police officer overseeing the Safe School Programme to implement it.

He singled out PCRC Rivers State Chairman Dr Voke for leading the IGP Special Assignment Committee, and credited National Coordinator Amb. Chief Samuel Olaoluwa Akintoye helped move the initiative to this stage. Members of the Special Assignment Committee, including those who worked on engagements with traditional rulers, were also acknowledged.

The approval marks the end of the planning phase for the initiative, which the PCRC says is aimed at improving school safety, building security awareness among students, and strengthening community-police partnerships across Nigeria.
