Lagos CP Commissions Renovated VCRU Base, Receives New Operational Vehicles, Logistics

-

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai,  on Thursday commissioned the newly renovated Operational Base of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), located at Ijora Olopa Oto Road, behind the LAWMA office in Lagos State.

The ceremony also featured the presentation of five additional operational vehicles, 1,200 raincoats, and 1,000 pairs of operational boots, donated by the Lagos State Government through the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF). The items are aimed at strengthening the Command’s operational capacity while improving the welfare, safety, and effectiveness of personnel on duty.

The VCRU is one of several strategic initiatives introduced by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, as part of proactive policing efforts to combat violent crime across Lagos State. The unit functions as a specialised tactical backup force, designed for rapid deployment to high-risk incidents requiring swift intervention, intelligence-led operations, and coordinated enforcement responses. Its continued expansion reflects the Nigeria Police Force’s broader commitment to public safety through operational readiness and strategic crime-fighting.

The event drew a range of government officials, traditional rulers, and security stakeholders, including the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, Dr Ayodele Ogunsan; the Ojora of Ijora Kingdom, HRH Oba AbdulFatai Aromire; the Aare Onikoyi of Yorubaland, Aare Tomori Williams; the Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Lagos State Chapter, Engr. Olalekan Adigun, the President and Founder of the Social Intervention Advocacy Foundation, Dr Segun Awosanya, the Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Lagos State Command, Apostle Kehinde Sowemimo; Area Commanders; and other senior officers of the Lagos State Police Command.

In his remarks, CP Fatai said effective policing depends on strong collaboration, sustained partnerships, and shared responsibility among government institutions, security stakeholders, and the public. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led, technology-driven, and proactive policing strategies aimed at preventing crime and protecting lives and property across the state.

He expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the LSSTF for their continued support in strengthening policing infrastructure, noting that the renovated base and additional assets would significantly boost the Command’s response capacity.

The Commissioner also thanked Lagos residents for their continued cooperation and confidence in the police, assuring them that the Command remains committed to making the state safer for all. #Securitynewsalert.com
