Suspect Confesses To Breaking Into Four Homes In Ibadan, Loot Valued At ₦16.2m

-

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a suspected serial burglar, Nasiru Abiodun, over a string of burglaries in the Ejiooku/Iyana Offa area of Ibadan, recovering some of the stolen items.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the suspect was arrested on 31 October 2026 at about 9:45 a.m., following a tip-off from residents of Oyewole Zone 2, Ile-Igbon.

The residents reported to the Maku Base of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), after which operatives moved in and apprehended the suspect at a residential apartment. He was allegedly found with a sack containing house cables and other valuables estimated at ₦3 million.

Police said that during interrogation, Abiodun confessed to burgling four residential apartments in the area. He allegedly made off with house cables, mobile phones, motorcycle batteries and other household valuables, with the total value of items stolen across the four incidents put at ₦16.22 million. Some of the items have been recovered from him.

Following the confession, VCRU operatives visited the identified crime scenes to establish the facts and further the investigation. The Command said efforts have been intensified to recover the remaining stolen items and to arrest those suspected of receiving the stolen property.

Because other burglaries linked to the suspect may have gone unreported, the Command urged residents of Ejiooku/Iyana Offa, Ile-Igbon and neighbouring communities whose homes have been burgled recently to report to the nearest police station or the Maku Base of the VCRU. Police said such reports would aid the investigation and help recover more stolen property.

The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, assured residents of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and to ridding the state of crime through proactive, intelligence-driven policing and public collaboration. He urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly provide credible information to the police.

For emergencies, residents can contact the Oyo State Call Response Centre on the toll-free line 615, or the Oyo State Police Command Control Room on 08081768614 and 07055495413.
