The Oyo State Police Command has intervened in a dispute over the burial arrangements of the late singer Olayemi Bayonle Bolaji, popularly known as Toluwanisings. The parties have signed a peace undertaking committing them to end all public exchanges on the matter.
The Command stepped in over concerns of alleged conspiracy, defamation of character and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.
According to a statement from the Command, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, received information on October 28, 2026, about a disagreement between the deceased’s family and his associates over the proposed burial arrangements. The disagreement had generated tension and public exchanges on various communication platforms.
Citing his responsibilities under Section 4 of the Police Act and other relevant provisions of the law, the Commissioner directed that all parties be invited to the Command Headquarters at Eleyele, Ibadan, to prevent further escalation and facilitate an amicable resolution.
At the end of the engagement on Tuesday, all parties signed the peace undertaking before the Commissioner. They included the singer’s wife, Mrs Olayemi Elizabeth Damilola; his father, Mr Muniru Olayemi; his friends and associates, among them Oyindamola Esther, Babadunni Gbolabo and Comrade Lawal Ademola Rafiu; as well as his personal assistant and other representatives.
Under the agreement, the parties pledged to keep the peace, be of good behaviour and refrain from any act capable of causing a breach of the peace. They also agreed to discontinue public exchanges, interviews and discussions that could inflame tensions or aggravate the disagreement surrounding the singer’s death.
The parties further undertook to stop disseminating information, narratives, allegations and publications on the matter via social media, print media, radio, blogs and other channels, including through proxies, agents, associates and representatives. They also agreed not to grant interviews or provide access to individuals or media platforms for the purpose of spreading such narratives.
In addition, each party committed to directing their proxies and associates not to make, sponsor, amplify or circulate publications that could reignite the dispute or undermine the agreement.
The Commissioner warned that the agreement must be respected by all parties and extends to their proxies, agents, associates and representatives. He cautioned against exploiting the circumstances of the singer’s death to instigate hostility, promote unsubstantiated allegations or disrupt public peace, adding that anyone whose actions constitute an offence under applicable laws will be arrested and prosecuted.
The Command also urged members of the public, bloggers, media practitioners and other interested persons to exercise restraint, respect the undertaking, and avoid amplifying unverified information or publications that could reignite tensions. It stressed that any conduct independently amounting to a criminal offence would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
