As part of ongoing deliberate offensive operations against terrorist elements operating across the Operation Enduring Peace Joint Operations Area, troops of Sector 6 conducted a decisive operation at Gero Highground in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State in the early hours of Friday, 26 June 2026.
The operation followed reports of nefarious activities by suspected terrorists in the area.
Approaching the high ground, troops came under fire from terrorists who were using livestock as a shield. The troops held their position and called for reinforcement.
On the arrival of reinforcements, the terrorists were forced to withdraw. Troops pursued the retreating terrorists, neutralising some while others fled, and maintained aggressive combing of the area to dismantle terrorist enclaves.
In a related development, at about 10:00 am the same day, troops of Sector 5 deployed at Maijanki intercepted a motorcycle conveying two persons from Kuba District in Bokkos Local Government Area towards Maijanki in Barkin Ladi. On sighting the checkpoint, the two passengers threw away a bag and fled into the bush. Troops recovered the abandoned bag and arrested the motorcycle rider.
A search of the bag led to the discovery of three locally fabricated rifles. Under preliminary interrogation, the suspect said he had picked up the fleeing passengers from Kuba without knowledge of their intended destination. The suspect, the recovered weapons, and the motorcycle remain in custody for further investigation.
In a separate engagement on Tuesday, 30 June 2026, troops responded to intelligence reports of a large gathering of suspected terrorists within the Rafin Bauna/Gero mountains in Jos South LGA. Troops ambushed the group, neutralising five terrorists while others fled and abandoned their mission.
On-the-spot assessment, corroborated by community members, indicated that some of the neutralised terrorists were wanted by the Command for previous attacks in Jos South and Bassa LGAs.
Additionally, on Thursday, 2 July 2026, at about 12:10 am, troops deployed at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) Kuru in Jos South LGA were fired on by suspected terrorists who had breached the perimeter through a low fence under cover of darkness.
Troops engaged and neutralised one terrorist, while others fled. The body of the neutralised terrorist has been handed to the police for further action. Arms and ammunition recovered from the scene remain in custody, and troops are maintaining aggressive patrols in the area.
Operation Enduring Peace reiterated its determination to deny terrorist elements freedom of action within the Joint Operations Area and reassured residents of renewed efforts to secure lives, property, and lasting peace in the region. #Securitynewsalert.com
