Delta Police Launches Campaign Against Political, Digital Thuggery to Mark International Youth Day

-

The Delta State Police Command has announced a three-day programme to commemorate the 2026 International Youth Day, with activities aimed at strengthening police-youth engagement and discouraging political and digital thuggery among young people.

The Command said the celebration, held in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun’s successor, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, is themed “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations” and seeks to encourage youths to contribute positively to peace, security and community development.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the activities will run from August 20 to 22, 2026, beginning with the official launch of the National Campaign Against Political and Digital Thuggery at Coka Park, Asaba, on Thursday.

The second day will feature a youth sensitisation walkathon from the Delta State Police Headquarters on Okpanam Road, Asaba, while the final day will include a Police-Youth Dialogue, panel discussion and special lecture at the Officers’ Mess, Police Headquarters, Asaba.

“The programme is designed to provide a platform for meaningful interaction with youths on responsible citizenship, peaceful participation, digital responsibility and crime prevention,” the statement said.

It added that participants would attend lectures on topics including “My Future Is Greater Than Political & Digital Thuggery,” as well as drug abuse and cultism.

Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, urged young people to shun activities capable of destroying their future.

He said, Young people should reject political thuggery, violence, cultism, cybercrime, hate speech and other activities capable of jeopardising their future, and instead channel their energy and talents towards education, entrepreneurship, innovation, sports and other productive pursuits.”

The police command called on youths and members of the public to actively participate in the activities and support the campaign message, “My Future Is Greater Than Political & Digital Thuggery.”
