IGP Disu Charges Nigerian Youths to Reject Political Violence, Digital Thuggery at Abuja Security Dialogue

-

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu,  today participated in the opening day of the National Youth Leadership and Security Dialogue in Abuja, marking the start of a three-day programme organised to commemorate International Youth Day 2026 under the National Youth Security and Peacebuilding Initiative.

The event, running from August 20 to 22, is themed “Different Contents, Common Aspiration” and is aimed at promoting youth inclusion, peacebuilding, innovation, and responsible citizenship. Day One centred on the theme of Youth Leadership, Security and National Development, featuring sessions on national security, digital responsibility, civic participation, entrepreneurship, cybersecurity, innovation, and mental health.

Speaking at the event, IGP Disu urged young Nigerians to reject political violence, criminal manipulation, and digital thuggery, insisting that no political ambition is worth sacrificing the future of any Nigerian youth. He called on them to embrace peace, leadership, innovation, and responsible citizenship, rather than violence, hate speech, misinformation, and other destructive conduct.

The Inspector-General reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to protecting democratic participation, securing communities, and working with young people and other stakeholders to build a safer, more peaceful society. He said the dialogue offers youths a platform to contribute meaningfully to national development and democratic stability.

The programme attracted participation from government representatives, development partners, youth leaders, the Police Officers’ Wives Association, the Police Community Relations Committee, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders.

The Nigeria Police Force said it is confident the three-day engagement will yield practical outcomes that strengthen youth participation, community safety, and national peace.
