Troops Rescue Kidnap Victim in Kaduna, Foil Terrorist Attack in Sokoto

-

Troops of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (JTF NW OPFY), have sustained their operational momentum across the Joint Operations Area, rescuing a kidnap victim in Kaduna State and repelling a terrorist attack in Sokoto State.

According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops of Sector 1 responded to a distress call on 20 August 2026 following the abduction of a 43-year-old man around Awon community in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The soldiers swiftly moved into the area and pursued the assailants into the surrounding bush, forcing them to abandon their captive and flee. The victim has since been reunited with his family.

In a separate operation on 21 August 2026, troops of Sector 2, working alongside local security elements, responded to a terrorist attack on Kwaren Gamba village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The troops engaged the attackers and forced them to withdraw in disarray.

During the ensuing pursuit, one terrorist was neutralized. Troops also recovered two mobile phones, cash, an ATM card, recharge cards and other items from the scene.

The Theatre Command said it remains resolute in sustaining the tempo of operations to deny terrorists freedom of action and to create a safer environment for communities within the Joint Operations Area. It reassured the public that troops would continue to respond decisively to emerging threats, while urging citizens to remain vigilant and provide timely, credible information to security forces in support of efforts to restore lasting peace and security in the region.
