Soldiers, Commanders, Local Forces Unite in Guinea-Bissau Route March to Strengthen Bonds

-

The Force Headquarters of the ECOWAS Stabilisation Support Mission in Guinea-Bissau (FHQ ESSMGB) organised its monthly route march on Saturday, bringing together personnel from across the mission and Guinea-Bissau’s armed forces to promote fitness, teamwork, and operational readiness.

The 5-kilometre march, held in Bissau, included officers and soldiers from Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, and the Level II Hospital, alongside Guinea-Bissau’s Army, Navy, Air Force, and National Guard. Staff from the Office of the Resident Representative of the President of the ECOWAS Commission also joined the exercise.

Speaking after the march, Force Commander ESSMGB, Brigadier General Danjuma Ribah Dantani, emphasised the importance of physical training for mission success. “This monthly exercise is aimed at bringing personnel together to maintain physical fitness and overall wellbeing, which are essential to effective operational performance,” he said.

He further highlighted the health benefits of regular training, noting: “Regular physical exercise helps personnel maintain healthy lifestyles and reduces the risk of health challenges associated with physical inactivity.”

Brigadier General Dantani urged contingent commanders to prioritise fitness among their troops. “Our officers and men must remain physically fit and operationally ready at all times,” he stressed, commending participants for their commitment and teamwork.

The march was described as a vital opportunity to strengthen camaraderie and interoperability among the mission’s diverse contingents and Guinea-Bissau’s security forces.

Major Reuben Kovangiya, Military Public Information Officer at FHQ ESSMGB, confirmed the successful conduct of the exercise, underscoring its role in fostering unity and collective readiness across the mission. #Securitynewsalert.com
