Troops of the Joint Task Force Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued six kidnapped victims unharmed and recovered ₦800,000 in cash stolen by terrorists during operations across Katsina State.
The successful operations were carried out in Dandume and Kankara Local Government Areas following sustained aggressive patrols aimed at denying criminal elements freedom of action in the region.
According to a statement released by Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer for Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the first operation took place on August 22, 2026, when Sector 2 troops responded to an emergency call along a major transit route.
“Troops of Sector 2 conducting a fighting patrol responded swiftly to a distress call that terrorists had intercepted a vehicle and kidnapped 6 occupants along the Dandume–Sheme Road,” Danja said. “The troops advanced to the area and made contact with the terrorists, overwhelming them with superior firepower and forcing them to abandon their captives and flee into the surrounding bushes.”
Following a search of the immediate area, all six captives were recovered without injury. Troops also retrieved the ₦800,000 cash sum taken from the commuters during the ambush.
“The money and vehicle were subsequently handed over to the victims in the presence of the Divisional Police Officer, Dandume,” Danja added.
The rescue follows another tactical engagement just a day prior. On August 21, Sector 2 troops intercepted another terrorist element along the Maraban Kankara axis in Kankara Local Government Area. Upon heavy engagement, the armed group fled into the bush, leaving behind a motorcycle that was seized by military forces.
Military authorities emphasised that the task force will not relent in its clearance operations throughout the North West theatre.
“The Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains resolute in sustaining aggressive patrols and offensive operations to deny terrorists freedom of action and protect lives and property,” Danja stated. “The Theatre appreciates the continued support of members of the public and urges communities to provide timely and credible information to security forces in support of ongoing operations.”
