The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olutunji Rilwan Disu, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to upholding the rule of law, due process, and the protection of citizens’ fundamental rights.
Speaking today Monday 24th of August 2026, the IGP emphasized that justice can only be served when proper procedures are followed.
“In the pursuit of justice, allegations must be properly investigated, evidence carefully examined, and every individual given the opportunity to be heard,” the IGP said. “No one should be condemned without due process.”
He also used the opportunity to caution members of the public against resorting to extrajudicial measures in seeking redress for grievances.
“We call on Nigerians to reject mob action, self-help justice, and the temptation to take the law into their own hands,” Disu stated.
According to the IGP, sustainable peace and justice can only be achieved through respect for established institutions.
“A peaceful and just society is built when we allow lawful institutions to do their work,” he said. “Let the law take its course. Justice must be fair, lawful and impartial.”
The IGP’s remarks come amid ongoing efforts by the Force to strengthen public confidence in Nigeria’s justice system and curb incidents of jungle justice across the country.
