Police Defuse Suspected IED Found At General Hospital In Niger State

-

The bomb disposal unit of the Nigeria Police Force has successfully defused a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) discovered on the premises of the General Hospital in New Bussa, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.

According to an eyewitness, the suspicious object was first spotted by a security guard attached to the hospital, who promptly raised the alarm.

“The security man on duty was the one who first noticed the object and alerted other security operatives,” the eyewitness said, adding that the item was subsequently confirmed to be an explosive device.

The discovery reportedly sent panic through the hospital premises, with patients, staff, and visitors gripped by fear as news of the suspected explosive spread.

Operatives from the bomb disposal unit later arrived at the scene, defused the device, and evacuated it from the hospital for controlled destruction.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said the situation had been brought under control.

“The situation is now under control,” SP Abiodun stated, noting that additional security personnel have been drafted to the location as a precautionary measure.

Authorities have yet to disclose who may have been behind the planting of the device, and investigations are reportedly ongoing.
