Enugu Police Arrests Suspected Thieves, Recovers Stolen Tricycle, Motorcycle, POS Machine

-

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested two suspected thieves in separate raids across Akpugo in Nkanu West Local Government Area and New Haven, Enugu, recovering a stolen motorcycle and a tricycle in the process.

Operatives also seized a Point-of-Sale (POS) machine, a heavy-duty cable cutter, and two bags containing new wrappers and female handbags believed to have been abandoned by fleeing suspects.

According to a press statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, on September 11, one of the arrests occurred on September 9 at about 5 p.m., when operatives attached to Nkanu West Division, working with Forest Guards, apprehended 24-year-old Nnamani Chekube Eze at Obuno-Akpugo.

He was found riding an unregistered Sanya motorcycle allegedly stolen from a male victim in the area. The suspect has reportedly confessed and is assisting police with investigations.

In a separate incident on August 30 at about 7 p.m., operatives from the New Haven Division arrested a suspect identified as Godwin Emmanuel at an incomplete building near WAEC Bus Stop, Independence Layout.

He was found with a tricycle stolen earlier that day from a church in the area, and reportedly also confessed to stealing a Sumo pumping machine at Maryland, Enugu.

He has since been arraigned and remanded in correctional custody following his transfer to the Independence Layout Police Division.

In a third development, residents alerted police on September 3 at about 6:10 a.m. to suspected thieves moving from Ugbo-Okonkwo toward the Powerline area in New Haven.

Responding officers forced the suspects to flee, abandoning two bags that were later recovered with help from a local Neighbourhood Watch group.

The bags contained 112 new wrappers and 29 female handbags, which have since been returned to their owners. A POS machine and a cable cutter were also recovered from the scene.

Police say the motorcycle theft suspect will be arraigned once the investigation is concluded, while efforts continue to track down the suspects who fled the New Haven operation.

Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the operatives, residents, and community security groups for their cooperation, and directed that the fleeing suspects be identified and prosecuted. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to making Enugu State “unconducive for unrepentant criminals.”
