The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a suspect linked to a chilling kidnap-and-kill threat against a 50-year-old resident of Seni Salla Village, Saki, and his family.
According to police reports, the victim, Metu Jilani, received threatening calls on September 13, 2026, from unknown persons claiming they had been contracted to abduct and kill him. The callers demanded he sell his two houses and pay them ₦3 million, warning that his younger brother would be kidnapped if he tried to flee.
To facilitate the extortion, the suspects provided an account belonging to a Point-of-Sale operator in Kwara State. Jilani, however, transferred only ₦100,000, which became a crucial lead for investigators.
On September 18, two men attempted to withdraw the money. One of them, identified as Hantsi Abdullahi, was apprehended, while his accomplice, Hantsi Liman, escaped. Abdullahi was attacked by a mob before police intervened and rushed him to hospital, where he remains under medical care.
Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, has ordered a thorough investigation and vowed to bring all accomplices to justice. The police have urged residents to report threats and suspicious activities promptly to aid swift intervention.
