The Police Service Commission (PSC) has flagged off a four-day Comprehensive Data Protection Awareness Programme at its Corporate Headquarters in Abuja, as part of efforts to strengthen data security and privacy practices within the Commission.
The PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd), formally opened the programme and stressed the importance of data security in modern policing and public administration. He called on participants to make the most of the training to build the Commission’s capacity for effective data protection in compliance with the Nigerian Data Protection Regulations.
The training is being organised by Charistech Consulting Ltd., a licensed Data Protection Compliance Organisation, in partnership with the PSC. Speaking at the event, the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Philip Aiwekhoe, said the curriculum was designed strictly in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023, and is intended to give PSC officials the knowledge needed for regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, and secure handling of data.
Running from September 21 to 24, the programme has been structured to accommodate all staff and Board Members of the Commission. A dedicated session for prospective Data Protection Officers (DPOs) is scheduled to hold on September 23.
Facilitators say the training, which targets teams handling sensitive operations, is aimed at instilling a culture of security and privacy awareness across the Commission, thereby reducing the risk of data breaches and ensuring organisational compliance.
Officials of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) were also present to observe the exercise.
