The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, was on Friday honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the St. Gregory’s College Old Boys Association at a grand reception held in Lagos State.
The IGP shared the spotlight with the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr. Olayemi Cardoso, as the event brought together distinguished old boys of the college who have gone on to make notable contributions in their respective fields of national service and leadership.
Presenting the award, organisers said it recognised Disu’s distinguished career in public service and leadership, as well as his over three decades of service to the Nigeria Police Force since completing his secondary education at St. Gregory’s College in 1985.
According to the citation, the recognition celebrated the IGP’s journey through frontline policing, criminal investigation, intelligence operations, international peacekeeping and senior command responsibilities. Disu joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1992, rising through the ranks to serve as Commander of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad, Head of the Intelligence Response Team, and Commissioner of Police, among other senior roles, before his appointment in February 2026 as the 23rd indigenous Inspector-General of Police.
Organisers also cited his continued emphasis on professionalism, intelligence-led policing, accountability, personnel welfare, community partnership and the responsible use of technology in strengthening policing and public safety as part of the reasons for the honour.
Speaking after receiving the award, the IGP thanked the St. Gregory’s College Old Boys Association, describing the recognition from his alma mater as particularly significant to him. He used the occasion to reaffirm his commitment to serving the country with integrity and to building the Nigeria Police Force into a more professional, accountable, and people-centred institution.
In a statement issued after the event, the Nigeria Police Force said it remained committed to promoting exemplary leadership, professionalism, and dedicated service, adding that it recognises the role of values, education and mentorship in shaping officers who contribute meaningfully to national development.
