The Oyo State Police Command has embarked on a statewide community engagement initiative to appreciate residents for their cooperation in the fight against crime as part of activities marking the 2026 Customer Service Week.
The initiative, themed “Going the Extra Mile,” was designed to strengthen police-community relations, promote public trust and reinforce the importance of public participation in crime prevention.
The exercise involved engagements with motorists, traders, parents, youths, students and other residents across the state.
As part of the initiative, the police presented souvenirs, books and other gift items to members of the public, including primary and secondary school pupils, in recognition of their support and partnership with the Command.
The engagement also provided an opportunity for the police to encourage residents to share credible, timely information to help security agencies prevent crime and maintain public safety.
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, said the initiative was an integral part of the Command’s non-kinetic approach to crime prevention and control.
According to him, effective policing goes beyond law enforcement to include deliberate efforts to build public confidence, strengthen relationships and encourage active community participation in security matters.
He noted that the cooperation of law-abiding residents remained invaluable to the Command’s efforts to prevent crime and maintain safety across the state.
Olugbenga also reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining meaningful engagement with residents beyond the Customer Service Week, stressing that public trust and confidence were essential to effective policing.
While appreciating the people of Oyo State for their continued support, the police commissioner urged residents to remain vigilant, promptly report suspicious activities and provide credible, actionable information to security agencies.
The Command reiterated its commitment to serving residents with professionalism, respect, accountability and dedication, while strengthening collaboration between the police and the public towards achieving a safer Oyo State.
