#AIG Moshood Denies Role in Lekki Demolition, Says Man Behind Petition Has No Title to the Land

-

The Nigeria Police Force Zone 2 Headquarters, Lagos, has denied claims that its Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, was complicit in the demolition of a property allegedly worth over ₦1 billion in Lekki, describing the allegation as “mischievous” and the property in question as “mythical and fictitious.”

In a statement issued on Tuesday, 3 November 2026, by its Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Afolayan Gbenga, the Zone 2 command responded to newspaper and social media publications about a petition to the Inspector-General of Police by Akeem Osuolale Ogunseye. The petition reportedly called for the investigation and discipline of the AIG over the alleged demolition.

The police said the AIG “did not at any time conspire with Skyview Properties Limited or any of his agents to engage in any demolition of any property in Lekki or any other location in Lagos state.” They added that, to the best of the AIG’s knowledge, no police personnel were deployed by him to the property, and that he never left his office to supervise any demolition.

The command challenged Mr Ogunseye to back up his claims with evidence. He “is hereby challenged to produce evidence of the Police deployment or presence at the said property,” the statement said, adding that he should provide pictures of the AIG or other officers on the land.

The police said the matter began when a petition dated 22 October 2026, written by Toyin Pinheiro (SAN) & Co. on behalf of Skyview Properties Limited, reached the AIG’s office, and an investigation was directed. According to the statement, the petition alleged that on 17 October 2026 Mr Ogunseye and “his thugs” entered Plot 37, Block 77, Lekki Peninsular Scheme 1, armed with “dagger, machete, Dane guns, charms etc.,” and attacked engineers, architects, builders and other workers on site. The petition claimed the workers were seriously injured and fled, and that the property was then chained and padlocked without any court order for a stay of execution.

The petitioners also drew the police’s attention to a judgment delivered on 30 June 2025 by Justice K.A. Jose of the Lagos State High Court in suit no. LD/1006CMW/2015, between Skyview Properties Limited and Mr Samuel Alao Ajibode and two others. According to the statement, the court confirmed Skyview’s title to the property, restrained Mr Ajibode and his agents from further trespass, and awarded ₦10 million in general damages against him. The police said the company has owned the land since 1993 and built the fence, security house and building foundation on it.

The police described Mr Ogunseye as “grossly incompetent” in the matter, saying he is not a party to the suit and has “no any interest whatsoever in the said property known to law.” The statement said he “has been found out not to have any document, title, deed of assignment or court order in his favour,” nor proof of payment for the property.

The command also said Mr Ogunseye had earlier petitioned the AIG on 19 October 2026, claiming that Mr Ajibode, whom he described as his brother and the actual owner of the land, had conferred beneficial ownership on him. The police noted that Mr Ajibode is the same person who lost the suit to Skyview. They dismissed the claim, saying it amounted to “putting something on nothing.”

Explaining why that petition was not pursued, the police said further action was discontinued “to avoid miscarriage of justice” and to prevent civil litigation against the force by Skyview for violating a valid court judgment, as well as to spare the police from contempt of court. They rejected claims in the media that the petition was torn up, saying it “is available in our records for inspection.” Mr Ogunseye, they said, “is at liberty and may wish to report back to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zonal Criminal Investigation Department where his matter is being handled.”

The police warned that he should be ready to “show cause why he should not be arrested, investigated and prosecuted” for offences including criminal conspiracy, criminal trespass, threat to life, criminal destruction of property, grievous bodily harm and criminal defamation. The statement also accused him of using the media to “malign the integrity of the AIG” after his petition was turned down.

The statement said police intervention in property disputes is strictly meant to prevent a breakdown of law and order and protect lives and property, in line with the Lagos State Properties Protection Law 2016. It added that Zone 2 would “continue to be guided by high regard for the rule of law, respect for the judiciary and strict adherence to the international best practices and professional code of conduct for police officers.”

The command urged the public to “discountenance the publication in its entirety as unfounded, fictitious, malicious and orchestrated to discredit the Police,” and called on media organisations to verify reports before publishing them.
