Group condemns purchase of SUV for House of Rep, urges FG to prioritise needs of citizens

-

A nongovernmental group, Rainbow Watch and Development Centre, has expressed concern over the recent purchase of SU vehicles for the House of Representatives by the federal government.

The Executive Director of Rainbow Watch and Development Centre, Michael Lenee Gbarale, said that the fact that the cars were bought with borrowed money was a cause for alarm.

He said: “The government should be prioritising the needs of the people over luxury vehicles for politicians. Borrowing to fund the purchase of luxury vehicles demonstrates a clear lack of fiscal responsibility.

“Furthermore, at a time when many Nigerians are struggling to make ends meet, it is insensitive and inappropriate for the government to be spending such large sums of money on non-essential items.

“We call on the government to reconsider the purchase of these vehicles and to prioritize the needs of the people. The government should focus on providing essential services such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure development, rather than spending money on extravagant items that are not necessary for the functioning of the government.”
