CP Kebbi Command sympathises with families of 11 passengers that died in accident

The Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Chris Aimionowane, has expressed his sympathy with families of people who died in a fatal accident in the state.

The Police spokesman in the state, a Superintendent of Police, Nafiu Abubakar, said that on the 3rd of November, 2023, at about 6:am, there was a fatal motor accident along Koko-Yauri road, involving a Volvo DAF truck with registration number KWA 230 SKK.

The driver has been identified as Alhaji Sule, 40, from Gada Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The truck which was loaded with passengers and bags of beans was coming from Sokoto to Ibadan, Oyo State.

On reaching Giron Masa village, Shanga LGA, the driver of the truck lost control. As a result, it somersaulted and 21 passengers sustained various degrees of injuries.

Upon receipt of the report, a team of Policemen from Shanga Division rushed to the scene and evacuated the victims to the General hospital, Shanga, for treatment, where a medical Doctor confirmed 11 dead, while the remaining victims were responding to treatment.

Abubakar said: “The Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Chris Aimionowane, prayed for the souls of the departed to have an eternal rest and may their immediate families and friends have the courage to bear the irreparable loss.

“The CP also calls on the NURTW, NARTO and other road users to always ensure they place adequate safety measures in their vehicles and be conscious, with a view to preventing future reoccurrence. He equally advised them to observe the speed limit, avoid overloading, recklessness and be more careful while driving.”
