…NLC call for may extend IGP’s tenure
…Vice President decorates new IGP
Juliana Francis
The newly appointed acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has just a year plus to serve as the number one policeman in Nigeria before he goes on retirement.
This also means that he has just a year plus to create fundamental changes which he thinks can move the Police as an institution forward and impact the lives of Nigerians and police personnel.
This was the topic on the lips of some Nigerians, even as Vice President Kashim Shettima, decorates Egbetokun today in Abuja as the new acting IGP.
The new IGP was born in 1964 and by 2024, he will be 60 years old, which is the retirement age for civil servants.
However, it will be recalled that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) had called for a review of civil servants’ retirement age and years of service in the entire public service to 65.
President Bola Tinubu’s led administration is expected to determine the call made by NLC.
The call was made by NLC President, Joe Ajaero, during the 2023 Workers’ Day celebrations in Abuja.
