The Head of Rescue and Referral, Advocates For Children And Vulnerable Persons Network (ACVPN), Comrade Toyin Okalawon, has revealed how an alleged serial paedophile was finally arrested.
According to Okalawon, the alleged paedophile is 29-year-old Shodeke, who defiled a 16-year-old between April 2024 and February 2025 and was finally charged to Bariga Police Station family Unit (FSU) at Yaba Magistrate Court this February.
It was gathered that when the violation was discovered, Shodeke, trying to build a defence, claimed that the minor was his girlfriend, with whom he had canal knowledge.
Okalawon said that the ACVPN Social Enquiry investigation revealed that community members had warned Shodeke on several occasions to desist from harbouring underaged girls in his room, but he had ignored them.
It was further alleged that he changes and discards underage girls the way people discard used tissue papers.
The community also said that most of the girls used to scream in pain in his room during sexual violation.
Okalawon said: “Shodeke was alleged to be fond of camping series of minors in his room week after week. It was also gathered that the perpetrator’s mother refused to show up at the court, though the report has it that she tried as a mother to get her son off the hook but could not.
“The perpetrator is said to be an event planner and a solo caterer who also takes some girls along for outings whenever he has a decoration job to do. Some people in the community felt sorry for him, while others concluded that he had met his Waterloo.
“He was remanded in prison till next month while we await Advice from the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).”
