In a strategic leadership transition, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Olatunji Disu has officially assumed duty as the 55th AIG in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annexe, Alagbon Close, Ikoyi.
Disu, a veteran officer and Lagos native, took over the mantle on February 9, 2026. He succeeds AIG Margaret Ochalla, who is currently undergoing professional training in the United States.
With a career spanning over 32 years, AIG Disu is widely regarded as one of the most decorated operational and investigative minds in the Nigeria Police Force. Since joining the force in 1992, he has held several high-profile commands. He notably revolutionised urban crime control as the Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos between 2015 and 2021.
He also served as the Head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Commissioner of Police for both Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory, and most recently as the AIG in charge of the Special Protection Unit.
Beyond his extensive field experience, Disu is an academic heavyweight. He holds a degree in English Education from Lagos State University and multiple Master’s degrees in Public Administration as well as Criminology, Security, and Legal Psychology. His technical expertise is further bolstered by an Advanced Diploma in Forensic Investigation.
In his inaugural address at the Alagbon Annexe, AIG Disu expressed his enthusiasm for returning to serve in his home state and thanked Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun for the appointment. He noted that he was deeply appreciative of the IGP for counting him worthy of the opportunity to serve in this high-level capacity.
The new AIG was quick to set a firm tone for his administration, pledging a zero-tolerance approach to corruption. He emphasised his commitment to strengthening the investigative and operational capacities of the FCID Annexe to ensure a more robust fight against crime. To achieve these goals, Disu called upon stakeholders, sister security agencies, and the general public to support the police in their mission to promote justice and safety.
