Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have rescued a man from an angry mob in Kuje Area Council, following an alleged attempt to abduct a five-year-old child.
The incident occurred on Sunday, October 4, 2026, when police received a distress call at approximately 2:46 PM reporting an ongoing mob attack on an unidentified adult male in Angwan Lado, Kuje.
In response, police operatives attached to the Kuje Division swiftly deployed to the scene and rescued the suspect, identified as Bashir Usman, just as the irate crowd was preparing to lynch him.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect was attacked after residents accused him of attempting to kidnap the child in front of her family residence.
Confirming the event in an official statement on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer for the FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed that the suspect is currently in protective custody.
She added that investigations have been expanded to determine the full scope of Usman’s activities and identify any potential accomplices.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police for the FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, condemned the mob’s actions and warned the public against engaging in jungle justice. CP Sanusi stressed that self-help measures delay the course of justice and are criminal acts tantamount to murder under Nigerian law.
The Command urged parents and guardians across the territory to maintain heightened vigilance regarding the safety of their children.
Residents are advised to report suspicious individuals or activities immediately to the nearest police station or via the Command’s emergency hotlines: 08028940883 and 08032003913.
