Alleged Serial Fraudster Poses as Wealthy Contractor, Dupes Bureau De Change Operators of $12,000

The Enugu Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has begun investigations into Raheem Abiodun Wasiu, 38, described as an alleged serial fraudster who reportedly swindled Bureau De Change (BDC) operators of $12,000.

Wasiu was arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) after a complaint from Ezekulie Stanley Chukwuamuanya, a BDC operator, who said he lost $5,000 to the suspect. “I gave him the dollar, and he counted it by himself… he mentioned my name that popped up on his bank application; I confirmed it. The next thing he told me was that it had gone through, which I waited for the alert to come, to no avail,” Chukwuamuanya recalled, adding that Wasiu disappeared soon after.

Another victim, Chief Nwaoha Ubaferem from Owerri, Imo State, alleged he was defrauded of $7,000. “He resumed the transfer, called my name and informed me that the transfer had gone, which I believed but continued to expect an alert from him,” Ubaferem said.

Investigations revealed that Wasiu allegedly rented Toyota Hilux trucks, moved with escorts, and posed as a wealthy contractor to gain trust before presenting fake bank alerts.

Items recovered from him include luxury watches, designer bags, multiple ATM cards, phones, and a Hilux truck registered in Akwa Ibom.

EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed that Wasiu will be charged in court once investigations are concluded. #Securitynewsalert.com
