Angry mob kills butcher over alleged blaspheming of Prophet Muhammad

The Sokoto State Police Command has launched an investigation after a butcher, Usman Buda, was attacked and killed for allegedly blaspheming the holy prophet Muhammad (SAW) in the state.

The Police said that the incident happened on the 25th of June, at about 9:55 am, which was when they received a distress call that Usman Buda of Gwandu Local Government Area, a Butcher at Sokoto Abbatoir allegedly blasphemed the holy prophet Muhammad (SAW) as a result he was mobbed and attacked by some Muslim faithful, who inflicted serious injuries on him.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Ahmad Rufai said that on receiving the information, the Commissioner of Police, Area Commander Metro, and  Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of  Kwanni, led a team of policemen and all other operational commanders to the scene.

Rufai said: “On arrival, the mob escaped the scene and left the victim unconscious where he was rescued and taken to Usmanu Danfodio Teaching Hospital Sokoto (UDUTH) for treatment and was later confirmed dead at the said Hospital meanwhile, the Area is calm. The Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, CP Ali Hayatu Kaigama, is appealing to members of the public to go about their lawful activities and should not panic as the situation is under control.  Meanwhile, an Investigation is on to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to book.”
