Army Officer, Six Soldiers Killed in Bomb Blast After Repelling Attack in Borno

-

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, have repelled an हमला by suspected terrorists in Monguno, Borno State, but lost a commanding officer and six soldiers in a deadly improvised explosive device (IED) incident.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, the incident occurred late on April 12, 2026, when troops of Sector 3 came under what he described as an “isolated infiltration attack” at the Charlie 13 location.

Uba said troops engaged the attackers in a fierce exchange of gunfire, eventually forcing them to retreat while maintaining control of the area.

However, tragedy struck shortly after the confrontation. The Commanding Officer, who was moving to the frontline to personally assess the situation, drove into an IED. The explosion severely damaged his vehicle, killing him and six other personnel.

The Army spokesperson described the late officer’s actions as a reflection of “the highest traditions of military leadership,” noting that he advanced toward his troops despite the danger.

“His courage, selfless service, and commitment to the welfare and operational effectiveness of his men stand as a profound testament to his valour,” Uba said.

Operation HADIN KAI expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing the fallen personnel as gallant officers whose sacrifice would not be forgotten by the Armed Forces or the nation. #Securitynewsalert.com
