Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has condemned a brutal attack on the Ayilamo community in Logo Local Government Area, which resulted in multiple fatalities, including the deaths of four police officers.
In a statement released through his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, the Governor expressed deep sorrow over the incident, calling it a harsh, stark reality of the ongoing security challenges facing the state.
“This incident is a disturbing reminder of the persistent insecurity and repeated attacks on vulnerable communities and law-enforcement officers in the area,” Kula quoted Governor Alia as saying.
Commiserating with the families of the victims, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, Governor Alia paid tribute to the fallen officers “who paid the supreme price in the service of their fatherland.”
Following the strike, joint security efforts yielded initial results. Governor Alia commended the Department of State Services (DSS), specifically personnel operating across Benue and Nasarawa States, for their rapid, high-level tactical response that led to the capture of three key suspects tied to the violence.
The arrest, according to the Governor, represents “a significant step towards uncovering the full circumstances of the incident and bringing those responsible to justice.”
Reiterating his commitment to safeguarding lives, Governor Alia assured residents that his administration remains dedicated to intensifying collaborative security operations with federal agencies to fortify Ayilamo, Logo, and surrounding vulnerable territories.
“The people of Ayilamo and the entire State will not be abandoned,” the Governor vowed, reassuring citizens that state forces will maintain a firm stance against perpetrators of violence.
