CAIDOV Condemns Alleged Extrajudicial Killing in Effurun, Demands Justice

-

The Centre Against Injustice and Domestic Violence (CAIDOV) has condemned what it described as the “cold-blooded murder” of a young man, Ogidi Mena, allegedly by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Effurun, Delta State.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Executive Director of CAIDOV, Comrade Gbenga Soloki, said the incident, which reportedly occurred on April 28, 2026, involved officers attached to the Effurun Area Command in Uvwie.

Soloki alleged that video evidence showed the victim seated on the ground and subdued in front of a marked police vehicle before he was shot.

“Video evidence shows the deceased seated on the ground, visibly subdued, in front of a marked police vehicle. He was unarmed, posed no threat, and was subsequently killed in what amounts to extrajudicial execution,” he said.

Describing the incident as a violation of the law, the CAIDOV director added:

“This is murder. It violates Section 33 of the 1999 Constitution and all rules of engagement.”

The organisation called for immediate action against the officers involved, insisting that internal disciplinary measures would be insufficient.

“We demand the immediate arrest and dismissal of all officers in that police vehicle and at the scene, as well as homicide charges against the trigger-happy officer or officers. There must be no attempt to subject this matter to an ‘orderly room trial,” Soloki stated.

CAIDOV also urged relevant oversight bodies to launch a transparent investigation into the incident.

“We call for a public investigation by the National Human Rights Commission and the Police Service Commission within seven days,” he added.

The group further demanded compensation and a formal apology to the family of the deceased from the Nigeria Police Force.

“The Nigerian Police must stop killing young Nigerians,” Soloki said, reiterating the organisation’s call for justice. #Securitynewsalert.com
