Chairman, Secretary Urge ICPC Anti-Corruption Unit to Intensify Preventive Measures, Foster Accountability

-

The Chairman and the Secretary of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) have jointly called on the Commission’s internal Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) to intensify preventive measures and strengthen accountability within its working systems.

The charge was delivered recently at a sensitisation workshop in the ICPC headquarters, Abuja.
ICPC Chairman Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, represented by Director Olusegun Adigun, urged ACTU members to remain steadfast in promoting integrity and reinforcing internal controls within the Commission.
Dr Aliyu described corruption as a major obstacle to national development and framed the workshop as a “call to action,” pledging continued institutional support for the Unit’s work.
Echoing the Chairman’s message, the Secretary to the Commission, Barr. Clifford Oparaodu, emphasised ACTU’s indispensable role in the national anti-corruption framework. He stated that the Unit fosters accountability through vigilant fact-finding and by ensuring transparency in internal processes, such as promotion exercises.
ACTU Chairman Barr. Michael Adesola highlighted the Unit’s ongoing efforts, including its independent management of the 2025 promotion examination, further warning staff against any conduct that could undermine the Commission’s integrity and formally appealed for ACTU to be elevated from an ad-hoc body to a full-fledged Unit to enhance its operational capacity.
Others who also spoke include Mrs. Azuka Ogugua, Head of Reforms.
The event concluded with a reinforced commitment to collaborative action, underscoring the shared responsibility of staff and management in building a corruption-resistant public service.
