CP Tijani Fatai Takes Over as 42nd Lagos State Commissioner of Police

-

In a transition aimed at strengthening the security architecture of Nigeria’s economic hub, CP Tijani Fatai officially assumed office yesterday as the 42nd Commissioner of Police for the Lagos State Command.

Fatai succeeds CP Olohundare Jimoh, who led the command from February 2025 until March 26, 2026. The handover marks a significant homecoming for the veteran officer, who is a native of Agege, Lagos State.

A Legacy of Strategic Leadership

According to a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the new Commissioner brings over three decades of tactical experience to the role. A philosophy graduate from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Fatai joined the force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent in 1994.

His extensive career includes high-profile postings such as Commissioner of Police at the Eastern Port in Port Harcourt and Deputy Commissioner of Police for Operations at the Lagos State Command. He has also served as Squadron Commander for both 5 PMF Benin and 17 PMF Akure, and previously led the Homicide Section at the State CID in Lagos.

“His track record of leadership, professionalism, and dedication to duty underscores his preparedness to steer the affairs of the Lagos State Police Command effectively,” stated SP Adebisi.

Upon taking his seat at the Ikeja Headquarters, CP Fatai outlined a vision focused on modernisation and public trust. He emphasised that the Command under his watch would not only fight crime but would do so through the lens of international best practices.

“I want to reassure stakeholders and the general public of my commitment to consolidating ongoing reforms,” Fatai said during his inaugural address. “Our focus is on enhancing internal security, strengthening inter-agency collaboration, and deepening community partnerships to protect lives and property.”

The Command has urged Lagosians to extend the same cooperation to the new leadership that was afforded to his predecessor. This transition comes at a time when the city seeks to bolster its “Smart City” initiatives by increasing tech-driven policing and community-led intelligence.

“The Lagos State Police Command solicits the continued support of the public as the new leadership works to deepen professionalism, discipline, and service delivery,” the official statement concluded. #Securitynewsalert.com
