The President of the Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria, CRAN, Mr Olalekan Olabulo, has warned members of the public to be wary of fraudulent WhatsApp groups operating under the name “Value Growth Club,” alleging that scammers are impersonating prominent businessman Aigboje Aig‑Imoukhuede to deceive unsuspecting victims.
In a public warning issued on Wednesday, the CRAN president said the fraudulent groups falsely claim links to Gotham Capital and use the name of the Chairman of Access Holdings to gain credibility and solicit participation in fake investment schemes.
According to the statement, “Members of the public are hereby advised to exercise extreme caution regarding fraudulent WhatsApp groups operating under the name ‘Value Growth Club’, where individuals are impersonating Mr. Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, CFR, Chairman of Access Holdings, and invoking Gotham Capital to gain credibility and solicit participation.”
The statement stressed that independent checks confirmed that Aig-Imoukhuede has “no connection whatsoever” to the WhatsApp groups or any related investment platform.
It further clarified that the businessman “has not created, endorsed, authorised, or participated in any group called Value Growth Club,” and is “not involved in any WhatsApp-based investment competition, trading group, or initiative linked to Gotham Capital or any similar platform.”
Describing the activities as “false, misleading and fraudulent impersonation,” the Olabulo urged Nigerians not to join the groups or share sensitive personal and financial information with the operators.
“The public is strongly advised NOT to join these groups, NOT to send money, NOT to invest, and NOT to share personal or financial information with anyone claiming such affiliation,” Olabulo added.
The association also urged members of the public to immediately exit, report and ignore such groups while helping to circulate the warning to others to prevent more victims from falling prey to the scam.
