CRAN Welcomes AIG Olatunji Disu as Head of FCID Annexe, Commends IGP’s Strategic Deployment

-

The Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) has formally welcomed Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Olatunji Disu to his new role as head of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annexe, Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, Lagos, describing his deployment as a strategic move to strengthen the nation’s criminal investigation framework.

In a statement issued by the President of CRAN, Olalekan Olabulo, the association said AIG Disu’s appointment reflects the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun’s intention to reinforce the country’s investigative architecture with experienced tactical leadership.

According to Olabulo, AIG Disu brings to the new role over three decades of policing experience, having served in several frontline operational commands, including the Rapid Response Squad, Intelligence Response Team, and as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory.

“These postings placed him at the core of counter-insurgency operations, armed robbery suppression, and intelligence-driven policing,” Olabulo said.

He expressed confidence that AIG Disu’s wealth of experience in high-threat environments would strengthen forensic capacity, improve case management systems, and enhance inter-agency collaboration at the FCID Annex.

“His track record offers a replicable model for integrating tactical intelligence into investigative procedures,” he added.

CRAN noted that it expects the new FCID boss to consolidate existing gains while introducing targeted innovations, particularly in forensic capability development, digital evidence handling, and improving investigative turnaround time.

“These are critical components in a modern crime-fighting architecture,” the CRAN president stated.

The association also commended the Inspector General of Police for what it described as a timely and strategic deployment, especially as the country faces evolving security challenges requiring experienced investigative leadership.

Olabulo said AIG Disu assumes office with a clear mandate to align the operations of the FCID Annex with national security priorities.

The CRAN president further revealed that AIG Disu has reaffirmed his commitment to integrity, transparency, and professionalism, noting that such ethical standards would strengthen public confidence in the FCID and improve compliance with rule-of-law principles in criminal investigations.

CRAN also called for sustained collaboration among law enforcement agencies, the judiciary, civil society organisations, and citizens to effectively dismantle criminal networks and ensure swift justice delivery.

“Collective security responsibility remains the bedrock of sustainable public safety,” Olabulo said.

He added that as AIG Disu assumes leadership of the command, CRAN remains committed to constructive and solution-driven engagement with the FCID Annex.

“The association will support initiatives that promote investigative excellence, operational accountability, and intelligence-led policing in Lagos and across the country,” he said.
