Crime Reporters Welcome, Applaud Appointment of Fatai Tijani as CP Lagos

-

The Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) has officially thrown its weight behind the newly appointed Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, CP Fatai Tijani, describing his selection as a strategic move to fortify the security architecture of Nigeria’s economic hub.

The appointment, approved by Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu, comes at a time when the megacity faces evolving security dynamics driven by its dense population and economic significance.

In a statement released on Wednesday, CRAN President Olalekan Olabulo praised the Inspector General’s decision, noting that the appointment was firmly anchored on merit, competence, and proven performance.

“This decision by the IGP reflects his confidence in CP Tijani’s professionalism, integrity, and capacity to lead,” Olabulo stated. “It aligns with the urgent imperative to strengthen policing and internal security in Lagos State, a megacity whose complexity demands a policing leadership of exceptional skill.”

CP Tijani is a familiar face within the Lagos Command. Having previously served as the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations (DCP Ops), he is widely regarded as an officer who understands the city’s “pulse”. During his tenure as DCP Operations, Tijani was credited with coordinating the majority of the command’s crime prevention initiatives and demonstrating high-level crisis management in challenging environments.

CRAN recognises the magnitude of the mandate before the new Commissioner and anticipates a renewed focus on intelligence-led policing, the expanded deployment of modern technology in crime detection, and a strengthened collaboration with other security agencies. Furthermore, the Association expects the new leadership to prioritise enhanced officer welfare and discipline while maintaining a strict adherence to the rule of law and human rights.

The Association expressed total confidence that Tijani would leverage his strategic insight and extensive experience to reposition the Lagos State Police Command. CRAN concluded the briefing by reaffirming its commitment to a professional partnership with the police to ensure the collective pursuit of peace, safety, and stability in the state.
