Cross River Police Arrests Suspect While Chanting Incantation In Hotel Premises

…arrests 7 confessed Black Axe, recovers six guns

The Cross River State Police Command on the 19th of  May 2025, at about 3:50 am, a team of Anti-Kidnapping Squad responded to a distress call by the Manager of a Hotel along Asari Eso Street, Calabar and arrested an alleged ritualist identified as 24-year-old Larry Sanyu.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), a Superintendent of Police, Ugbo Irene, Sanyu, was caught and arrested while carrying out abnormal behaviour of incantations inside the hotel premises.

Irene said: “Items recovered upon apprehension include: One sword, one small mortar and pestle, Candles of various colours, six empty Ghana must-go bags, different criminal charms and other personal effects of the suspect.

“Meanwhile, the suspect has been transferred to State CID for discreet investigation and diligent prosecution.

Similarly, the Command, on the 9th of May, arrested seven suspects who confessed to be members of the Neo Black Movement of Africa, a.k.a. ( Black Axe).

The Police image manager said that the seven suspects were arrested by a team of Soldiers attached to Nigerian Army, Afi Barracks and handed over to the Divisional Police Headquarters, Etung, after unleashing acts of criminality at Itaga Community.

The said suspects have been transferred to State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) for further investigation and will be prosecution as soon as the investigation is concluded.

The suspects are: Philip Nse Oku, Nta Ransome Mbeh, Asira Cosmas, Daniel Eze, Esor Moses, Divine Linus and Osita Michael.

“Items recovered from them include six locally made guns. They have all confessed, will be arraigned in court soon,” said Irene.
