Tragedy struck in the early hours of November 9 when suspected armed bandits, believed to be members of the Lakurawa sect, launched a deadly assault on a Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) outpost in Maje, a community in the Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
According to preliminary reports, the attackers arrived in large numbers and opened fire indiscriminately on the facility. The assault resulted in the death of Deputy Superintendent Sadiq Muhammad, a dedicated officer who was fatally wounded while defending the post.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos as residents fled into nearby bushes to escape the gunfire. Security operatives were swiftly deployed to the area to restore order and pursue the perpetrators.
The funeral prayer for the fallen officer was held at the Abdullahi Fodio Palace in Birnin Kebbi. The solemn event was attended by Governor Nasir Idris and other top government officials, who paid their respects and condemned the attack.
Speaking on the incident, Salisu Tajuddeen, Public Relations Officer of the NCS Kebbi Area Command, confirmed the loss of one officer and assured the public that investigations are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible.
The attack has raised concerns about the growing insecurity in the region and the safety of personnel stationed in remote outposts.
