Stepfather Remanded for Alleged Defilement of 16-Year-Old Girl in Lagos

-

Advocates for Children and Vulnerable Persons Network (ACVPN) has reported a disturbing case of child defilement involving a 16-year-old girl allegedly impregnated by her stepfather,  aged 44.

The case came to light when the victim’s mother noticed unusual changes in her daughter’s behaviour and physical condition. Concerned by the absence of her menstrual cycle and signs of fatigue and nausea, she took the girl to Abaranje Health Centre on November 6, 2025, where medical tests confirmed a one-month pregnancy.

ACVPN officers promptly responded to the report and met with both the victim and her mother. During interviews, the victim revealed that the sexual abuse began when she was just 12 years old. She described repeated assaults by her stepfather, often occurring in the kitchen or veranda whenever her mother was away.

The victim stated that the perpetrator would turn off the lights to avoid detection and used threats to silence her.

According to the victim, the abuse was a regular occurrence, typically in the mornings or after school hours. She expressed fear of retaliation, which prevented her from confiding in her mother earlier.

Following the medical confirmation of pregnancy, the case was immediately reported to the Ikotun Police Station. Authorities issued a referral for further medical examination at Idera General Hospital in Igando. The suspect has since been remanded at Kirikiri Correctional Centre, and the case is scheduled for hearing on December 11, 2025.

ACVPN has commended the swift action of the Ikotun Divisional Police Officer and the Lagos State Police Command’s Gender Unit for their close monitoring of the case.

The organisation also acknowledged the support of the Lagos State Ministry of Justice and the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP). Further updates on the legal proceedings will be provided as the case progresses.
