…Compelled Survivors to oath of secrecy on Bible or face death
The Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin has sentenced Prophet Ajiboye Abayomi Olayinka, General Overseer of Divine Land of Joy and Prayer Ministry, to three separate life imprisonment terms plus an additional 14 years for raping three 13-year-old minors in his congregation.
Justice H.A. Gegele delivered the judgment, finding Olayinka guilty of unlawful sexual intercourse with minors, rape, and conducting illegal abortions.
The court, however, discharged him of the charge of bigamy.
According to evidence presented, the convict repeatedly assaulted the victims inside the church’s Mission House at Agah, Ganmo Area of Ifelodun Local Government, Kwara State.
Witnesses testified that Olayinka applied anointing oil on the victims’ private parts before raping them and forced them to swear secrecy oaths on the Bible under threat of death.
The prosecution, led by Chief State Counsel Issa Zakari, called 12 witnesses and tendered exhibits.
The court also ordered that the pump-action firearm recovered from the convict be forfeited to the Federal Government.
Justice Gegele described Olayinka as “a paedophile and philanderer whose conduct should be deprecated by all and sundry in the society.”
