The Delta State Police Command has arraigned 30 suspects arrested during an intelligence-led crime prevention and enforcement operation carried out across identified criminal hotspots in the Asaba metropolis.
The suspects were among 202 persons arrested during the raid conducted on Saturday, July 4, 2026. The operation, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Operations, was based on intelligence gathered by the State Intelligence Department (SID) and targeted identified black spots, brothels and suspected illicit drug dens in Asaba and neighbouring communities.
According to the police, preliminary investigations led to the unconditional release of 172 suspects after they were screened and found not to have committed any offence.
However, the proprietor of Prince Tarvan 50 Brothel, 63-year-old Prince Chizoba Ojokwu, was arraigned before the Asaba Magisterial District Court for allegedly permitting his premises to be used as a brothel and procuring women and girls for prostitution. The offences are punishable under Sections 224 and 223 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap. C21, Vol. I, Laws of Delta State of Nigeria, 2006.
The remaining 29 suspects were also arraigned on charges bordering on conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace and possession of illicit drugs.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring that every lawful arrest is followed by thorough investigation and prosecution where sufficient evidence establishes a prima facie case.
He also warned operators of criminal hideouts and other unlawful establishments to desist from activities that could undermine public peace and security, stressing that the Command would continue to sustain intelligence-led operations aimed at ridding the state of criminal elements. #Securitynewsalert.com
