The Delta State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on violent crime, announcing the arrest of two suspected armed robbers and the recovery of several firearms in separate operations across the state.
These breakthroughs, occurring in Warri and Oshimili North, highlight a week of high-alert policing aimed at curbing the spread of locally fabricated weapons.
The first major success occurred in the early hours of March 9, 2026. Following a 5:00 AM distress call regarding an attempted robbery at a private residence in Egbokodo Itsekiri, operatives from the ‘A’ Division Warri swung into action. Supported by vigilant community members, the police cordoned off the premises, leading to the arrest of 38-year-old Emmanuel Solomon. A subsequent sweep of the area uncovered a bag containing two double-barreled cut-to-size guns and five live cartridges.
“Our operatives acted promptly to the distress call. This arrest is a testament to what happens when the police and the community work in sync to protect their neighbourhoods,” stated SP Bright Edafe, the Command’s Public Relations Officer
In a separate incident on Wednesday, March 25, the Command’s Raiders Squad intercepted another suspect during a proactive stop-and-search operation. Acting on credible intelligence, officers stopped 23-year-old Aminu Inusa along the Benin–Asaba Expressway near the Custom Market in Oshimili North. Upon searching the suspect, police recovered a locally fabricated Beretta pistol
Speaking on the recent arrests, SP Edafe commended the professionalism of the officers involved, emphasising that the Command is resolute in its determination to rid the State of criminal elements. Both suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue to determine the origin of the firearms and any links to wider criminal networks.
“The recovery of these weapons prevents potential tragedies,” Edafe added. “We urge the public to continue providing timely information. Your eyes and ears are our most valuable tools in maintaining peace.” #Securitynewsalert.com
