Delta Police Arrests Nine in Crackdown on Illegal Roadblocks, Highway Extortion

-

The Delta State Police Command has commenced a statewide crackdown on illegal roadblocks and unauthorised revenue collection along highways, arresting nine suspects during the first phase of the operation.

The exercise, which began on Friday, July 24, complies with the Federal Government’s directive to eliminate illegal roadblocks, extortion and other criminal activities on Nigerian roads.

Police said the operation targeted notorious locations where illegal toll collection and roadblocks have hindered free movement and posed risks to motorists.

The nine suspects were arrested at strategic points, including the Head Bridge axis, the Delta-Anambra boundary and the Benin-Asaba Expressway near Agbor.

According to the command, the suspects are currently in custody and will be charged in court after investigations are concluded.

The Delta State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to restoring safety and order on highways across the state, noting that similar enforcement operations would be extended to other parts of Delta.

The command also urged motorists and members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement officers as efforts continue to eliminate illegal levies and harassment on the state’s highways.

The statement was signed by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, on Saturday. #Securitynewsalert.com
