The Delta State Police Command has recorded another operational breakthrough in its fight against violent crime with the arrest of a suspected armed robber and the recovery of an illegal firearm in Ozoro.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Bright Edafe, the arrest was made on February 9, 2026, during a proactive patrol by operatives attached to the Ozoro Division.
Edafe disclosed that the operatives, while on township patrol along Hospital Road, Ozoro, at about 2:00 p.m., apprehended a 26-year-old suspect identified as Friday Oghenemaro.
“During the operation, a search was conducted on the suspect, which led to the recovery of a locally made Beretta pistol. The suspect, who was in the company of two other individuals, was arrested and taken into custody,” Edafe said.
He further revealed that preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect is allegedly a member of the Aye Confraternity and was found in possession of the firearm due to his affiliation with the cult group.
“The suspect confessed that he has had the firearm since his secondary school days. Investigation is ongoing,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Aina Adesola, commended the officers for their vigilance and professionalism in carrying out the operation.
The police commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intensifying visibility policing, intelligence-driven operations, and targeted patrols to prevent criminal activities across the state.
Adesola also urged members of the public to remain law-abiding and support the police with credible and timely information, stressing that community cooperation remains vital in maintaining peace and security in Delta State.
