The Delta State Police Command has recorded significant breakthroughs in its ongoing fight against kidnapping and armed robbery, with multiple arrests and recoveries made across different parts of the state.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, operatives of the Command, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended two suspects, Elvis Ebroghro (36) and Abiola Adegore (34), both residents of Ometan, for their alleged involvement in kidnapping and armed robbery.
The arrests followed an incident on September 11, 2025, when a community security guard, Abdullahi Mohammed, reportedly sighted the suspects attempting to steal a vehicle battery. When he confronted them, they allegedly threatened to kill him if he reported the act. Acting swiftly on intelligence and a confessional statement from one of the suspects, police operatives intensified their investigation and arrested another key suspect, Lucky Ebroghro.
During a follow-up operation, the team discovered an AK-47 rifle hidden inside an isolated building within Ometan community, believed to belong to the syndicate. The recovered weapon and the suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue.
In a separate operation, the Command’s Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Squad rescued a kidnap victim and apprehended three suspects in connection with the abduction that occurred on September 8, 2025, in Ogwashi-Uku.
The kidnappers had abducted a young man from his residence, collected a ransom of ₦2 million, and shot him in the leg for allegedly failing to pay more. Acting on a directive from the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, operatives led by CSP Godwin Osadolor trailed the suspects to a bush in Ogwashi-Uku, where the victim was rescued with a gunshot wound.
Further intelligence-led operations led to the arrest of two suspects — Chukwuebuka Nka (25), of Nenwe in Enugu State, and Uche Okechukwu, of Amaifeke in Orlu, Imo State — at Owerri Road, Ndemili North LGA, Anambra State. The victim’s white Toyota Venza SUV was also recovered from them.
Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed and led operatives to their hideout at Agidiase village, Ogwashi-Uku, where another gang member, Somto Chukwuma (18), from Ihiala LGA, Anambra State, was arrested. A Toyota Matrix vehicle with registration number RRT-331-AE, used as their operational car, and a network jammer circuit device were also recovered.
CP Abaniwonda commended the professionalism and resilience of the officers involved, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety of residents. He warned that there would be no haven for criminals in Delta State.
