The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Edafe Bright, said that the Command has arrested some suspected kidnappers in the state and recovered some sophisticated guns.
According to him, the achievements were made after operatives acted on intel received and immediately investigated.
The intel led to the arrest of some suspected kidnappers on the 30th of January 2025, who have been terrorising Abraka/Obiaruku/Umutu.
Bright said: “Operatives of the CP Special Assignment team (CP-SAT) led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Julius Robinson made a significant achievement when they stormed the hideout on the 2nd of February 2025 and busted the house of the fleeing gang leader named Emeka at about 4:35 pm, located at Evwokenren layout off Ughelli road Agbarho in Ughelli North LGA Delta State.
“During the raid, a fabricated Semi-Automatic Beretta Pistol with four rounds of live ammunition, four locally made cut-to-size guns, thirteen rounds of live cartridges, and a pair of military uniforms concealed in a black polythene bag were recovered.
“The suspect is in custody and a manhunt to arrest other members of his gang is ongoing.”
Similarly, the Command also arrested suspects in possession of three locally made single barrel guns, charms, G-3 rifles, and one pump action gun.
Bright explained that on the 19th of February, operatives of Safer Highway Patrol while on ‘Stop and Search’ duty along Benin/Agbor road flagged a commercial vehicle along Agbor/Benin express road.
Three suspects, in possession of three locally made long guns, and charms were arrested.
The suspects namely, Buhari Bala, 28, Habibu Sale, 25, Abdulwahab Musa, 20, and Taisu Bala, 20, all male, suspects claimed they were coming from Zaria Kaduna State going to a bush before Benin called Igbogri community on hunting expedition.
The PPRO said that the suspects were in custody and the investigation is ongoing.
He added: “In an earlier development, on the 17th of January 2025, acting on a tip-off, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Agbarho Division, a Chief Superintendent of Police, Pius Eredei, mobilised and led operatives to the apartment of one Eriga Enyuche, 40, and upon search of his one-room apartment, one G-3 Rifle and a pump action gun were recovered hidden in the ceiling of the room.
“The Commissioner of Police Delta State CP Olufemi Abaniwonda reiterates that the command under his watch will not relent in the fight against crime and criminality, noting that Delta state will remain hot for criminals. He therefore urged members of the public to continue to make available useful, timely, and credible information to the Police by reporting to the nearest police station,” said Bright.
