Delta Police Busts Cult Activities, Arrests 4, Recovers Weapons

-

The Delta State Police Command has arrested four suspected cult members and recovered weapons and illicit drugs in a series of operations aimed at curbing cultism and violent crime across the state.

Police spokesperson, Bright Edafe, disclosed that the arrests were made during separate intelligence-led operations in Okpe Local Government Area and Ibusa.

In one of the operations carried out on April 11, 2026, operatives of Delta Shield intercepted a 32-year-old suspect, identified as Peter Onajite, during a surveillance patrol in Orerokpe, Okpe LGA.

A search on the suspect led to the recovery of a locally made double-barrel cut-to-size pistol, two live cartridges, one expended cartridge, and sachets of suspected Tramadol.

“During preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed to being the leader of the Juris Confraternity,” Edafe said, adding that the suspect remains in custody while investigations continue.

In a separate operation on April 12, police foiled a suspected cult initiation in Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area, following intelligence about activities linked to a group known as Aiye.

Officers attached to Ibusa Police Station stormed a location on Jordan Road, leading to the arrest of three suspects, including a woman, while one Chinedu Onyeama was reported to have escaped.

Items recovered at the scene include an English-made Beretta pistol with a round of live ammunition, three battle axes, a hammer, a cutlass, and 39 firelighters believed to be intended for the initiation.

Reacting to the operations, the Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the officers for their swift response and professionalism. #Securitynewsalert.com
