Delta Police Nabs 4 Suspected Armed Robbers, Recovers Firearms in Asaba

-

The Delta State Police Command has announced the arrest of four suspected armed robbers in Asaba, recovering two firearms and ammunition during separate operations.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the first arrest took place on April 23, 2026, at about 4:25 p.m. when operatives of the Rapid Response Squad intercepted a man along Ugbolu/Asaba Road. “The suspect’s conduct aroused suspicion, prompting a search which led to the recovery of one fabricated Beretta pistol,” Edafe said. The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Chinoso Igwemma, is currently in custody.

In another operation, the Crack Squad intercepted a tricycle with three male occupants in the Bonsaac area of Asaba. A search revealed a locally made cut-to-size pistol loaded with one live cartridge. The suspects were identified as Umuadi Benjamin Chinecherem (30), Nwabueze Kelvin (28), and Okonkwo Celestine (30). “Preliminary interrogation reveals that they are linked to criminal activity and disposing of innocent citizens of their belongings,” the police spokesperson added.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to proactive policing. “We remain focused on intelligence-led strategies aimed at preventing crime and dismantling criminal networks across the state,” he said.

The suspects are undergoing investigation, and police say efforts are ongoing to trace their wider network and apprehend accomplices. #Securitynewsalert.com
