The Delta State Police Command has recorded a breakthrough in its ongoing fight against kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes, following the recovery of firearms and ammunition during a covert operation in the Upper Agbarho area of the state.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, ANIPR, FCIA, FIPMD, operatives of the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) acted on credible intelligence indicating that about six suspected kidnappers were sighted along a bush path in the area.
“Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of CP-SAT received information that about six suspected kidnappers were sighted at a bush path along the Upper Agbarho area,” Edafe said in a statement issued in Asaba.
He explained that at about 9:35 p.m. on January 11, 2026, CP-SAT operatives, led by ASP Julius Robinson and working in collaboration with community vigilantes, carried out a well-coordinated covert operation and cordoned off a criminal hideout located in an uncompleted building.
“Upon sighting the police operatives, the suspects opened fire. However, the operatives responded with superior firepower, forcing the hoodlums to flee the scene with varying degrees of injuries, abandoning their arms and other items,” the police spokesperson stated.
Items recovered from the scene include one FNC rifle loaded with one round of live ammunition and one pump-action gun with 32 rounds of live ammunition. The police said all exhibits have been taken into custody, while a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Commenting on the development, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Aina Adesola, commended the CP-SAT operatives for their bravery and effective use of intelligence.
“The Commissioner of Police commended the operatives for their braveness and professionalism, reiterating that the Command remains resolute in denying criminal elements the space to operate,” Edafe said.
CP Adesola also warned that Delta State would continue to be hostile to all forms of criminality, assuring residents of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
